
This bulky annual needs plenty of room in the gard en: with its
heart-shaped leaves it can easily grow to 5 ft (1.5 m) tall with a
spread of 3 ft (1 m). It is a great plant for hot color schemes,
both in the garden and as a cut flower, with its 4 in (10 cm) wide,
zinnia-like flowers of orange or scarlet. Torch bears bright orange
or red flowerheads and grows to 3 ft (1 m).

Cultivation: These plants thrive in hot, dry conditions, but require
a plentiful supply of water.
They grow best in well-drained soil and need full sun; they may need
staking.
Deadhead regularly to promote a longer flowering season and prune
hard after flowering to encourage new growth.
