Eucharis grandiflora Amazone lilly   Amaryllidaceae

Eucharis grandiflora, Amazone lilly

Eucharis grandiflora, Amazone lilly

A tropical plant native to Columbia, this hybrid is grown commercially for the cut flower trade. The scented blooms, carried on strong, straight, flowering stems, have pale creamy white petals and appear in early summer.
The dark green, well-displayed, glossy foliage is also decorative.
It reaches 18 in (45 cm) in height.
Flowering colors: Cream, White
Cultivation: Eucharis are flowers of the Colombian forest floor and do best in hot, moist conditions, growing well even in deep shade.
Provide a humus-rich, well-drained soil.
The foliage is attractive and the bulbs look effective massed in a tropical garden.
Propagate from seed when ripe or from offsets in spring.
