This Indian species bears dense spikes of fragrant butterfly-like,
satiny white flowers with pastel yellow blotches and a sweet scent.
The leaves are lance-shaped with downy undersides.
It has an upright habit and grows to about 5 ft (1.5 m) in height
with a spread of up to 3 ft (1 m).
Cultivation: Hedychiums prefer humus-rich, moist but well-drained
soil in a part-shaded position.
The spent stems should be cut out to ensure vigorous growth or the
blooms can be cut for indoor use.
Propagate from fresh seed or by division. |
