This,
the official floral emblem of California, has cup-shaped flowers
that open out from gray-green feathery foliage into vivid shades of
orange, bronze, yellow, cream, scarlet, mauve and rose. It flowers
in spring with intermittent blooms in summer and fall (autumn); the
flowers close on cloudy days. Of a rounded habit, it grows to 12 in
(30 cm) high with a similar or wider spread.

Cultivation: They thrive in hot, dry climates but will tolerate even
severe frosts.
They do not like to be transplanted so should be sown directly into
where they are to grow.
Grow in poor, very well-drained soil and deadhead regularly to
prolong flowering.
