This species, found through much of northern South America and the
West Indies, has oval 4in (10cm) long leaves and flowers to 3in
(8cm) wide.
The sepals have red top surfaces, green below.
The petals are a similar color but with red, blue or white banding.
The flowers are followed by 3in (8cm) long ovoid yellow fruit.

Cultivation: Plant in rich, well-drained soil in full sun and
provide support.
Prune congested or overgrown plants.
Propagate from seed or cuttings or by layering.
They are susceptible to nematodes.
