This genus of up to 500 species includes many well-known house plants. Native to tropical America and the West Indies, the plants are mainly epiphytic, evergreen vines and creepers with aerial roots, some dainty but others quite robust.
The genus also includes some shrubs and small trees.
Members are known for their lush foliage, often with a dramatic outline or deep lobes, mostly green but in some species attractively marked with white, pink or red.
The petal-less flowers are inconspicuous.
All parts of the plant are poisonous.

Cultivation: All species need plenty of moisture .
They need a sheltered, shady spot with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
Water and fertilize regularly.
Most species are easily grown from cuttings or from seed.
