Aristolochia littoralis, Dutchman's pipe

This creeper, fast-growing is native to Brazil and needs high humidity.
It has fleshy leaves and bears strangely shaped, maroon flowers with white, thread-like markings.
It is an interesting plant for verandah columns or a pergola.
Cultivation: The plants require well-drained, humus-rich soil in a sunny position, and support for their climbing habit.
Propagate from seed or from semi-hardwood cuttings.
Watch out for red spider mites.
