Native to Mexico and Guatemala, this popular species has an upright
habit to 6 ft (1.8 m) in height, arching in maturity. Its multiple
stems are up to 4 in (10 cm) wide and tapering. The nocturnal, 6 in
(15 cm) wide, white flowers have slightly curved tubes, hence the
name Dutchmans pipe. They are intensely fragrant.
Cultivation: They require full sun for optimum flowering.
These cacti are ideal hanging basket plants, their trailing stems
seeming to grow better if the roots are restricted.
Propagate from seed or cuttings. |
