This
species is one of the most widely cultivated ornamental palms.
It is a clump-forming feather palm with fairly short fronds that
arch elegantly from cane-like stems 10-20 ft (3-6 m) high.
The basal sheaths and frond stalks are yellow and the fronds
themselves are yellowish in sun but when grown in shade are a
beautiful light green.
It responds well to container cultivation and can be grown as a
house plant.
Cultivation: Plant in moist, well-drained soil in sun or light
shade.
Water freely, keep soil slightly moist all year.
Propagate from seed in spring; seeds can take up to 5 months to
germinate. |
